A reflection on Matthew 1-3 with Christ's death and resurrection demonstrating a joyful end to the poem.

By Matthew, I first learned justice,

Privately putting away the one who seemed trustless.

By Matthew, Mother Mary was, revealed with abruptness;

Her innocence was received,

The angel delivered,

Joseph believed,

The Gospel of Immanuel, altogether fussless.

From Matthew FAITH works,

And even in silence.

For Mary birthed the Lord,

Against the devil’s tridents.

But neither Joseph nor Mary uttered words.

(pause)

Not even through the violence,

That Satan through Herod transgressed in connivance.

The star of David, soon sparkled,

In Mary’s eyes.

The tears, soon poured down,

From Rachel’s cries.

By Matthew, joy and sadness,

Reside side by side.

But alas, in the end, these two worlds collide.

And rejoice! Rejoice!

For the latter has died

Christ is Risen! Truly Risen!

Oh, this comfort which the Spirit provides!

For the Father took the Son,

Sons, and all daughters by surprise.

Glory to you oh Lord, for you never deprive!
